Ian Joseph Somerhalder (born December 8, 1978) is an American actor, male fashion model, and producer, probably most notable for playing Boone Carlyle in the TV drama Lost, Paul Denton in the film adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' The Rules of Attraction, Adam Knight in Smallville and Miles Slater in The Tournament, set to be released in September 2009. Somerhalder guest starred as Nick in HBO's Tell Me You Love Me, appearing fully nude in a sex scene with actress Michelle Borth. Somerhalder has been cast as the character of Damon for the upcoming drama pilot The Vampire Diaries based on the book series by Ljane Smith.

The Vampire Diaries is a YA horror series of novels written by the NYT Bestselling author of the Night World series, L.J. Smith. The story centers around Elena Gilbert, a high school girl torn between two vampire brothers. The series was originally a trilogy published in 1991.However, pressure from readers led the author to write a fourth volume, Dark Reunion, released in 1992.[1]
After taking a hiatus from writing for several years, L.J. Smith announced in 2008 a new spin-off trilogy entitled The Vampire Diaries: The Return, continuing the series, with Damon being the main protagonist. The first installment, The Return: Nightfall, was released on February 10, 2009. The Return: Shadow Souls and The Return: Midnight are tentatively slated for release in April, 2010 and 2011 respectively.
The Vampire Diaries is currently being adapted into a TV series and is set to premiere on September 10, 2009 on The CW and CTV.
Lost is an American serial drama television series. It follows the lives of plane crash survivors on a mysterious tropical island, after a commercial passenger jet flying between Sydney, Australia, and Los Angeles, United States, crashes somewhere in the South Pacific. Each episode typically features a primary storyline on the island as well as a secondary storyline from another point in a character's life, though other time-related plot devices change this formula in later episodes. The pilot episode was first broadcast on September 22, 2004,[1] and since then five full seasons have aired.
